Episode Transcript
Well, hello my friend and welcome. Welcome to episode 17. Sorry about that. Welcome to episode 17 of the Claim your day podcast. I was about to say welcome to episode eight because we’re right in the middle or right finishing up a series on consistency and this is the eighth episode of that, so episode eight, the consistency series. And if you missed any of the previous episodes, make sure you go back and check them out.
Today we’re just going to wrap up things and really just talking about the value that, you know, pursuing consistency can really bring for you. Your life, you know, helping you to claim your day, making the most of the time that you have and to steadily over time to guide your life to go where you want it to go so that you can make the most of it. You know, no one ends up exactly where they want to be, achieving all their goals overnight.
That’s just not life. It’s going to take work, it’s going to take effort, it’s going to take you being consistent with the work and with the effort, with the improvement so that you can see those benefits, so you can just capitalize on what you have and make the absolute most of it. You’re living according to your values and that’s where consistency really comes in. So today we’re going to be wrapping up this series and I want you to kind of think back over those last few episodes of the different things that you can do that resonate with you so that you can see the true benefits of becoming consistent and putting in that work and that effort and really reaping the rewards of that.
Consistency is tough. It’s not easy. It takes effort and it takes time. But it’s well, well worth it. You know, just for a minute, I want you to think about, you know, where you would be at or what your life could be at, your future if you are just consistently pursuing your goals and living in a way that is true to your values. Think about that, Just think about what would that would mean for you and your life and that fulfillment of truly living out your values on a day to day basis and consistently pursuing your goals.
Think how far you could go. Think about just that life that you could live and how that would be what you want. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. And yet future, that future that you just imagined that those thoughts that came to your mind, it’s within reach. You can do it. It’s about embracing the fact that you’re going to have to be consistent. Make sure you go back and check out some of those previous episodes.
If you need a little bit of a refresher for a lot of the things that we did talk about, but here we’re going to do a quick little recap on it and a quick reminder for you too. These are things that I try to do that I’m working on. Some of them I’m a little bit better at. Some of it might come a little bit more naturally to me than others.
By no means am I perfect on any of it, but whether if it’s just really pursuing being consistent for the small actions that has a lot of rewards to it, or the habit formation, informing those habits, breaking down the negative ones and forming those positive ones, or if it’s dialing in that time management and a lot of the other things that we talked about that I’m working on too, right alongside you.
And today we’re going to celebrate a little bit your progress. I know we did an episode on that in this series, but today we wanted to celebrate the progress that you’re making of going through this series so that you can build that life of being consistent and having that future that you want. Just to summarize just a few of the key lessons that we learned over these series that we over these episodes in this series that we explored.
We talked about the power of that consistency in the small actions and those small actions compounded over time in the massive gains that they can give you. Those small steps over time can sometimes take you a greater distance than those large leaps. We talked about habit formation, breaking down the not so good habits and building up those new ones and how you can make those habits stick. We had a whole episode on that about habit formation because what we do on a day to day basis, on a day in, day out, that’s what’s really going to become who we are making sure that you’re intentional with being consistent in those habits.
Little side note, I know I’m going to end up doing a deeper dive series into habit formation. Don’t have an exact date for that, but be on the lookout because that will be coming. Talk about tracking your progress, how tracking your progress. It helps you to become accountable. It helps you to develop that momentum and maintain that momentum when you’re tracking your progress, helps you stay on track.
And it also makes it a little bit easier to get back on track too, when you are tracking your progress, when you are writing it down, when you are following what you’re doing and the benefits that you’re getting from it. We talked about overcoming some of those triggers and Those setbacks, we talked about being able to overcome the challenges, maybe avoid some of them too, because you might see them coming.
And then also just building that resilience, that resiliency of getting back on track when you do get knocked down. We talk a lot about that in one of the episodes or even combating procrastination and the distractions. That way you can be more focused. Definitely talked a lot about connecting with your why. And that’s one where it almost doesn’t matter what you’re doing, whether if it’s talking about consistency, habits, increasing significance, focusing on becoming intentional, achieving any goal that you have, really connecting with why it’s important to you and your values and how that resonates with who you are at your core.
When you zero in on that why, that is going to help you so much. It’s going to help you with your motivation, it’s going to help you with your consistency, it’s going to help you to get back up when you get knocked down. It’s going to help you just to drive forward and put forth that effort no matter what you’re doing. Remember why is it’s important to you and how that connects to your values.
And that’s going to always give you a nice little boost to keep going forward. And then in the last episode, we just talked about bringing consistency into all the areas of your life. It’s great to focus on that one that really is top of mind, that you need to make some progress in, that you need to make some gains in. That’s great. But then after you get the ball rolling in that area, allow consistency to spread through the other areas of your life because that’s what’s going to improve overall.
Because this is a life journey. This is something that we’re choosing for life so we can guide our lives to go. We want them to go. You talk about claiming your day, it’s not just in one area, it’s a holistic approach. Remember that consistency, it’s a lifelong journey, it’s not a destination. It’s like when we talk about self improvement or developing, becoming our best in anything. It’s not just, oh, you’ve achieved this, now you’re done.
We’re committing to that lifelong improvement, lifelong continuous improvement. And it’s that journey of always getting better, always learning and always honing our skills so that we can be the best that we can be. Consistency will take you there, but it’s also going to be consistency along the whole journey of just life. It’s about the continuous Improvement and development. That’s the major takeaway of what we’re going to gain by becoming consistent is that we’re always going to be continually growing and improving and developing.
As John Maxwell says, it’s the growth that we do today that’s going to allow tomorrow to be better. So let’s always continue to grow and our tomorrows will keep getting better and better. I believe there’s another recap. Why this is so important is that when we’re consistent, we’re always looking forward to the future while focusing on what we’re doing today. This is going to help you to be fulfilled.
It really will. Because when you’re consistent in acting in a way that’s true to your values, that’s what leads to the sense of purpose and the direction and fulfillment is because you’re consistently living according to your values for which you believe is most important. Of course, not everyone’s going to agree with what you do. That’s not the point. But you’re living true to what you believe in. Your heart is real.
And your values. That’s the fulfillment in life that I want you to have, as well as it’s a personal transformation along the way. The consistency is going to allow you to transform and become the person that you aspire to be because you’re living it out. You’re living it out on a daily basis by being consistent. Now, all those are kind of personal. That’s how it benefits you. But for just a moment, think about this too.
You consistently living out your values, those positive characteristics that you believe are just true. And those good family values that you have, you’re living those out on a daily basis. That’s not just going to be for your fulfillment and your betterment, but you’re going to have a positive impact. You’re going to become a role model for other people. You’re going to be able to help others around you have that positive impact and that that truly begins to guide your life to becoming a life of significance.
It’s how we positively impact other people that lead to the significance that we can have in life where it’s not just our own success. Think about that. I know a lot of things we talked about in this series of being consistent. It’s hard, it’s challenging. I. But it’s not just benefiting you, it’s actually benefiting other people too. Okay, so this episode is not just a recap. Yeah, I’ve recapped a lot of stuff over this series, but I also want to give you a little Bit of an action step that you can take.
Okay? So for this, I want you to think about just your long term vision. Think about those big goals, what you want for your long term vision for your life and your family. And think about that for a minute and write it down, just write down a brief description of that, that ideal life that you have. If you just write that down, you can pause this episode, write it down, just what that long term vision you have for your life is and that ideal life down the road for you.
You can even throw in some specific goals, values, aspirations that you might have related to that. Just be really brief. Obviously you can do a deep dive into it and go into a ton of detail, but if you only have a few minutes, don’t use that as an excuse. Just be really brief and write a short little paragraph about your long term vision for yourself, your ideal life, the impact that you want to have, and throw in just a few specific goals, values and aspirations.
Okay? Now connect that vision that you have with how you’re going to be consistent. You consistently pursuing that is what’s going to allow you to get there. So small steps over time, being consistent day in, day out, 365 days a year, not those large leaps, just that consistent action. I want you to start to think about, identify just a few habits, routines, different strategies that we talked about over this series.
Scroll back through and listen and look at some of the podcast episode titles that we talked about and listen to a few of them again if you want. And identify the habits, the routines, the strategies, you know, what you’re going to do to be consistent that you can implement so that you can make that vision that you just wrote out a reality for you and your life and your family.
You go ahead and make a plan, write it down. When you write these things down, it’s going to help you to commit to it even more. And you know what, if you met, if you get off track a little bit and you mess up a little bit, don’t worry, you can get right back on it. Pull that plan back out again and say, hey, I’m going to get back on it.
Every day that you have is a fresh new day to start again and to keep moving forward toward that vision that you have for you and your family, your future. At the same time, I want you to remember, always celebrate your progress that you make. You know, embrace it. It’s a journey, it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be challenging, but you’re going to make progress along the way and make sure you acknowledge that progress and give yourself a little bit of grace when you get knocked off track, because that’ll happen too.
And that’s okay. As I mentioned in the last episode, I think that’s one of the things that helps me to be consistent the most, is that when I goof up and I get off track, I give myself a lot of grace because I know how flawed I am. And so I get give myself a lot of, a lot of grace and it’s easier for me to get back on track because, hey, I know I’m going to get off track sometimes.
So I just hop right back on and get back at it. For my goals, my family and my vision, my future and my goal and my values, I want you to be able to do the same thing so you can do this, my friend. There’s power and consistency and it’s, it’s just waiting for you. All you have to do is start and keep at it. Speaking a little bit of a consistency, I’m here for you.
I’m here for you. I’m going to keep creating these, these episodes. We’re going to go on to different topics, but I’m going to be consistent for you for to be able to help encourage you so that you can click claim your day so that you can make the most of your time living according to your values for you, your family and your future. I want you to experience all the rewards and the benefits of the effort that you put into it.
And as John Maxwell says, you know, I want you to experience the compounding results of a day lived well because that is going to be wonderful and beneficial to you. All right, here’s to you, my friend. Can’t wait to talk to you again. In the next episode, we’ll dive into some new topics, help you to claim your day. Take care and we’ll talk to you soon.
